BYD Dolphin, ATTO 3 and SEAL Charger: Which Power Level Should You Choose?

Different BYD models can have different charging specifications, so choosing a charger based only on the car brand is not enough.

If you are looking for a BYD Dolphin EV Charger, ATTO 3 EV charger, or SEAL EV charger, the first specification to check is the vehicle's maximum AC charging power.

BYD Dolphin Charger

The current Thailand specification for the BYD Dolphin lists Type 2 AC charging at up to 7kW for both Standard Range and Extended Range versions.

This means a 7kW AC charger can be a suitable match for home charging when the household electrical system supports it. A 3.5kW portable charger can still be useful if you normally charge overnight or want a more flexible solution.

BYD ATTO 3 Charger

The Thailand-spec ATTO 3 also lists Type 2 AC charging at 7kW and includes a portable Mode 2 charging cable.

For ATTO 3 owners, a 7kW home charger can therefore be a practical option for regular charging. However, if your daily driving distance is low, a 3.5kW portable charger may already provide enough overnight charging.

BYD SEAL Charger

The Thailand-spec BYD SEAL also lists Type 2 AC charging at 7kW, with higher-power DC charging available for faster public charging.

This illustrates an important point:

AC home charging and DC fast charging serve different purposes.

You don't need a high-power DC charger at home simply because your BYD can accept high DC charging power at a public station.

Should You Buy a 22kW Charger?

Not necessarily.

If your BYD accepts up to 7kW AC, installing a 22kW AC charger does not automatically increase the car's charging speed. Your actual AC charging rate is limited by the vehicle's onboard charger.

Therefore, before buying a 7kW, 11 kW, or 22kW BYD charger, check your vehicle specification first.
